An eclectic mix of talents, including a formidable all-women’s team, are gearing up for a showdown that will mesmerize fans for a staggering 120 days. These players, representing a variety of associations, clubs, and pubs across the Klang Valley, are hungry for victory and ready to showcase their prowess.

Kelab Sukan SAM (KSS) Sports and Events Management, the masterminds behind this four-month extravaganza, aim to provide a vibrant stage for cueists to exhibit and refine their skills. Mr. Sam Sathishkumar, Partner/Head of Operations, declared, “Our mission is to create opportunities and competitive pathways for players to discover and develop talents for Malaysia.”

Sam also addressed the common misperceptions surrounding cue sports, saying, “We’re here to debunk the myths about snooker, pool, and billiards. By offering a generous prize pool and creating a nurturing environment, we’re elevating 8 Blackball and celebrating the incredible talent in our midst.”

The tournament has seen a surge in participation, with numbers swelling from 160 in 2023 to over 200 this year. In response, the organizers have upped the prize money from RM38,000 to a staggering RM55,000.

This year’s event is sanctioned by the Malaysian Snooker and Billiards Federation (MSBF), the governing body for billiard sports in Malaysia. President Mr. Melvin Chia expressed his delight at the organizer’s commitment to seeking proper support and endorsement, ensuring a top-tier event with official recognition.

Melvin highlighted the appeal of BlackBall, stating, “It’s fast, simple, and exciting, making it a hit among casual players. With this tournament’s format and attractive prizes, we’re raising the bar and attracting a broader audience. Our goal is to see BlackBall featured in major multi-sport events like the SEA Games and Asian Games.”

The tournament is not just a platform for competition but also a melting pot for Malaysians from all walks of life, bringing together individuals from diverse racial and religious backgrounds.

The battle begins with 26 teams divided into four groups for a round-robin face-off, complete with home and away matches. The cream of the crop will advance to Division 1, while the rest will compete in Division 2 for their share of the prize money. The tournament will culminate in a double elimination and knockout format, leading to the grand finals.

To spice things up, the organizers have introduced men’s and women’s singles open categories, offering additional prize purses of RM15,000 and RM7,000, respectively.

Mr. Sam extended his gratitude to the sponsors—Donnis Sports Sunway, The Lakeview Club Subang Jaya, Backyard Pub & Grill, A Bar Above, and Where Else Sunway—for their crucial role in making this tournament a reality.

As the countdown to the tournament begins, cue sports enthusiasts and casual fans alike are urged to mark their calendars for a show that promises to be a riveting display of skill, strategy, and sportsmanship. The stage is set for an unforgettable clash on the green baize!
