  • Leader Energy and Solarvest Collaborate for Regional Ventures in Renewable Energy

    SELANGOR, 6 OCTOBER 2023 – Leader Energy Holding Berhad (“Leader Energy”) and Solarvest Holdings Berhad (“Solarvest”) have taken a significant step towards advancing sustainable initiatives within the Southeast Asia (“SEA”) region. The Memorandum of Understanding (“MOU”) signed by both entities signifies their shared commitment to exploring and developing projects that prioritize sustainability, including renewable energy ventures and eco-friendly initiatives. This collaboration underscores their dedication to promoting clean energy adoption and fostering environmental responsibility across the region. Leader Energy, alongside its subsidiaries and jointly controlled entities, continues to play a pivotal role as an independent power producer, actively engaged in the development, ownership, operations, and maintenance of various power projects, bolstering sustainability efforts in the energy sector.

    Under the MOU, the collaboration will primarily focus on the exploration and development of renewable energy, including solar energy, battery energy storage systems, Energy-as-a-Service, as well as other sustainable energy applications. The partnership aims to leverage on the expertise of both parties to deliver innovative solutions within the SEA region and ultimately contribute to the achievement of net-zero emissions goal.

  • Driving Sustainability: MGTC’s Pioneering Partnerships at IGEM2023

    KUALA LUMPUR, 6 OCTOBER 2023 –  On the third day of the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition & Conference Malaysia 2023 (IGEM 2023), the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC) unveiled a new set of pioneering partnerships and initiatives with the goal of promoting environmental responsibility and climate action in Malaysia.

    In partnership with the UK Government, MGTC is proud to introduce the Malaysia Climate Action Simulator (MCAS). MCAS is a simulation tool to enable stakeholders to visualise low-carbon future scenarios through 2050. This cutting-edge tool will facilitate the exploration of pathways to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in various sectors, including energy, transport, building, industry, land use, and waste. MCAS is a vital communication tool to raise awareness about the impact of technology and policy choices on GHG emissions. In a bid to promote sustainability education, MGTC is also collaborating with universities to develop educational modules centered around MCAS, potentially integrating it into a university syllabus, MCAS is open to further research contributions, fostering informed decision-making for a sustainable future. The MCAS web tool can be accessed at www.mcas.my.

    MGTC is also thrilled to announce a strategic Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC) with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) in support of sustainability in Malaysia’s water sector. This partnership will focus on the adoption of the Low Carbon Operating System (LCOS) for measuring carbon emissions. MGTC will provide onboarding support for LCOS, while SPAN, as the regulatory authority, will lead the widespread adoption of this platform.

    Together, they aim to drive environmentally responsible water management practices, aligning with Malaysia’s commitment to a greener future. The collaboration’s total value is RM368,265.20, covering the measurement of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions for SPAN and 12 water operators. This partnership also encompasses the promotion of climate change awareness, LCOS adoption, and the establishment of a standardised system for carbon emissions measurement and reporting in the water industry.

    In addition, an MoC has also been established between MGTC and Greehill Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd, aiming to explore and evaluate potential joint endeavours in the domain of urban green infrastructure and ecosystem services management. This partnership will encompass comprehensive surveys, automated inventory processes, tree risk analysis, quantification, visualisation, reporting, and monitoring of urban green infrastructure, enhancing urban planning and sustainability efforts. These activities are designed to bolster urban planning initiatives, enhance sustainability practices, and ultimately contribute to the development of more environmentally resilient urban environments.

    In a significant stride towards plastic circularity and sustainability, MGTC has forged a Memorandum of Collaboration (MoC) with the Malaysian Recycling Alliance (MAREA). This collaborative effort seeks to harness MGTC’s position in promoting green growth and MAREA’s specialization in Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR). Together, they aim to establish strategic alliances, facilitate the exchange of technical expertise, implement capacity development programs for EPR, foster eco-design and eco-innovation in plastic packaging, and educate communities about the principles of plastic circularity. This partnership is aligned with Malaysia’s overarching green growth strategies and the objectives outlined in the Malaysia Plastic Sustainability Roadmap (MPSR).

    Hari Geodiversiti Antarabangsa adalah satu acara tahunan yang dirayakan pada 6 Oktober setiap tahun untuk meningkatkan kesedaran di kalangan masyarakat tentang kepentingan geodiversiti, iaitu kepelbagaian semulajadi bukan hidupan dalam memastikan kesejahteraan dan kemakmuran di planet ini.

    Geodiversiti ialah kepelbagaian unsur alam semula jadi yang terdiri dari sumber geologi iaitu batuan, mineral, fosil, tanah, sedimen, proses geologi semula jadi, landskap dan tanah yang mendasari serta mempengaruhi bentuk dan sifat landskap serta persekitaran kita.

    Semestinya kita amat menghargai kepelbagaian geologi yang tidak ternilai yang dianugerahkan oleh Tuhan kepada Malaysia. Geodiversiti adalah bukti kepada proses yang membentuk mukabumi kita selama berjuta tahun, justeru menghasilkan karya seni geologi yang unik.

    Keindahan Gunung Kinabalu, Sabah yang terbentuk pada 9-8 juta tahun yang lampau dan Formasi Machincang, Langkawi yang berusia 550-490juta tahun adalah antara contoh geodiversiti di Malaysia yang merupakan kebanggaan kita dan telah diiktiraf oleh dunia.

    Kementerian Sumber Asli, Perubahan Iklim dan Alam Sekitar Malaysia (NRECC) amat komited untuk melindungi geodiversiti negara dengan memastikan pengurusan sumber asli yang bertanggungjawab dan melaksanakan pelbagai inisiatif kearah pembangunan sumber asli yang mampan sejajar dengan Sustainable Development Goals, Pertubuhan Bangsa-Bangsa Bersatu, khususnya yang bertujuan untuk melindungi, memulihara dan mempromosikan penggunaan tanah yang lestari.

  • Eco-Friendly Initiatives: NextGreen Global Takes a Step Towards a Greener Future

    KUALA LUMPUR, 6 OCTOBER 2023 – At the product launching ceremony during IGEM 2023, NGGB emphasized their commitment to innovation in sustainable solutions.     Earlier, NGGB’s associate company Nextgreen Crowning Package Pulp Molding Sdn. Bhd. had completed the construction of its clean room factory for the manufacturing of the pulp moulded (food grade) products in August 2023. The factory, which is located at NGGB’s Green Technology Park in Pekan, Pahang, commenced its trial production on 16 August 2023.

    NGGB managing director Dato’ Lim Thiam Huat said, “We are delighted to launch our environmentally friendly tissue paper and food grade products today. The effective utilisation of EFB as the material for tissue paper and pulp moulded products aligns with NGGB’s direction to contribute substantially towards a greener global economy by accelerating the national sustainability agenda and the world’s transition to green and sustainable products. Notably, our EFB virgin pulp and paper is certified with SIRIM Eco-Labelling Scheme and MyHijau certification by MGTC. This evidences our pursuit towards creating a sustainable circular economy. We remain committed towards the transformation of oil palm biomass into various downstream products, in line with the aspirations of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Plantation and Commodities, YAB Dato’ Sri Haji Fadillah Bin Haji Yusof.”

  • Through its “Golden Photography” Workshop, OPPO seeks to provide people digital empowerment.

    Through its senior-only smartphone photography course, which is based on the company’s philosophy of “Technology for Mankind, Kindness for the World,” OPPO makes sure that no one is left behind when it comes to digital empowerment and technical know-how.

    Held in partnership with Universiti Sains Malaysia’s Bengkel Teknologi Senior, OPPO provided a group of 19 senior citizens with the opportunity to upskill and pursue creativity through the smartphone photography masterclass which included modules of shooting true-to-life portraits as well as bokeh photographs using the OPPO Reno10 Pro+ smartphone. 

    “We firmly believe that everyone has boundless potential and creativity when given the right tools and opportunities and we are hoping to unearth this skillset amongst the senior citizens, who are often left behind in an increasingly digital world. Through the OPPO Reno10 Pro+, the senior citizen generation can develop their interest in photography which will allow them to snap precious moments with their family and friends,” said OPPO’s Marketing Manager, Monica Qin.

    For Wan Farhah, age 61, the workshop masterclass is one way she is able to explore boundless creativity and pursue a hobby and interest that is near and dear to her.

I had so much fun, especially during the walkabout tour that I wished the session was a little longer. I will be on a lookout on for the next workshop and this time, hopefully we would also be able to learn about landscape photography and other aspects of photography since my husband and I like to travel and take pictures of the scenery and the diverse cultures.” said Wan Farhah.

  • 33.3 flies high with two gold prizes for its excellent cartier drone light show.

    In two excellent categories, Most Effective Use (Events) and Most Effective Use (Experiential), 33.3 (or “the Agency”) was named the GOLD winner at the fourteenth annual Agency of the Year Awards, also known as Markies Awards. The Agency’s exceptional execution for the Cartier drone light display in December 2022 is what earned the praise.

    Formed in 2019 by co-founders, Edwin Raj, Lau Hoe Yin (aka Blink) and Zulamran Hilmi with a conjoined mission to push confines of communication and create impactful forms of storytelling, 33.3 is renowned within the Asian creative industry for producing cutting edge music videos especially for Malaysia’s very own global pop R&B export, Yuna and The President of Malaysian Hip Hop, Joe Flizzow. “This win hits different because it is a solid indicator that we are more than what the industry especially our prospects and stakeholders perceive us to be.     The Cartier drone light show was the highlight of the luxury brand’s ‘Into The Wild’ global campaign designed especially for Malaysia. It was the first projects of such scale to be held at the iconic KLCC Twin Towers post-pandemic and 33.3 is the only Malaysian company to have been given the approval to execute a drone light show at the park. For this project, 33.3 partnered with an internationally acclaimed drone solutions company, SKYMAGIC, based in the UK. 

    Zulamran, a design, culture and art enthusiast who’s also a co-founder of this unique homegrown agency says, “Working closely with such a prestigious luxury brand such as Cartier and the international agency Auditore was a fulfilling experience; with key learnings of process, workflow and protocols to be fulfilled with no room for error”.

    “The process and planning alone took 90 days of detailing – from design, animation, synchronisation, application of permit and relevant approvals including strategy concerning public safety were precisely presented and revised accordingly as per client’s requirements. This is also the first time KLCC has allowed for such a feat as the location has been previously gazetted as a no fly zone. Though challenged by the storm, we are grateful for the assistance from the Meteorological Department of Malaysia, who skillfully calculated a window of opportunity to fulfill our mission. Ultimately, with the guidance from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia and the Royal Police Force (PDRM), we managed to execute the production safely, flying 300 drones to the beautiful KL skyline to form iconic shapes and designs that represent Cartier’s Into The Wild campaign. Our gratitude also goes out to Auditoire as the agency that gave us the platform and not forgetting the KLCC Management for their continuous support throughout the project ”, he added. 

    With sustainability being one of the Agency’s pillars to its creative practice and approach, the drone light show strictly followed current regulations and adhering their commitment to environmental responsibility. Zul also mentioned that the best part was hearing and watching the crowd’s reaction everytime the drones transformed into different shapes – driving home the idea of ‘experiential’ and ‘elevating brand experience’.  

    Perhaps the one thing that unequivocally unifies the three co-founders is their love for music and with Lau Hoe Yin (or better known as Blink) completing the pack, 33.3 stood out as a force to be reckoned with, not just in Malaysia but within the Asian region. Dubbed the Malaysian superstar DJ which inevitably positioned him as an influencer, Blink prefers to take it all in stride. “33.3 is a product of great teamwork. We may come from different backgrounds, be it our upbringing or professional life, but it is our mutual respect towards each other that is the heart of this agency. In a short span of 4 years, 33.3 has managed to work on defining projects with renowned global brands such as Cartier, Disney, Marvel, PRADA, Tourism Malaysia, Johor Darul Takzim FC, Bulan Bintang, DefJam, Netflix and many more. Speaking for both my partners in arms, Edwin and Zul, I believe that the best has yet to come and until then, we will continue to fill up the skies with drones and of course, producing amazing music videos”, says Blink unassumingly.

    Aligned with this win; and the progressive growth and demand in content, digital media and activation industries, 33.3 has seen an incline in revenue of 8 – 12%. For the record, 33.3 is the first Malaysian company to have executed 6 highly technical drone light show productions with 2 Malaysia Book of Records broken for most number of drones used in a light show (up to 350 drones for one particular project). “The Cartier drone light show held the record for a good 5 months before it was replaced with a local company that is all about the moon and the stars also executed by 33.3…”, Edwin gushed and continued, “but maybe that’s a story for another time”.

  • GEOGRAPHIC PROXIMITY AND REGIONAL MARKET ACCESS TO THE ASEAN TWO-WHEEL MARKET ARE PROVIDED BY MALAYSIA (MGBF).

    As a part of the Kuala Lumpur Bike Show 2023 (KLBS’23) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur (WTC KL), the Malaysia Global Business Forum (MGBF) organized a high-level industry debate with the topic “The Two-Wheeler Market – Mobility, ESG and the ASEAN Supply Chain.”

    During the moderated panel discussion, industry experts shared their insights on the strategic opportunity for Malaysia to be a greater player in the two-wheeler industry in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) as well as business prospects for Malaysia especially in the context of the regional supply chain. 

    It was also identified that with technology trends capturing the media narratives, especially as electric vehicles and reduced emissions technology become more commonplace, the trade and investment opportunities are what business leaders need to understand. 

    The ASEAN two-wheeler market represents at least 25 per cent of the global market and growing exponentially. From urban planning to environmental, social and governance (ESG), the two-wheeler industry can contribute to this trend and ultimately to the nation’s economy. 

    The National Automotive Policy 2020 which projects the country’s ambition outward to 2030 mentions motorcycles briefly. This bias towards cars in the policy may need further evaluation as it does not take into consideration the high growth market of the motorcycle market. 

    Nordin Abdullah, founding chairman of MGBF, said, “We recommend that the National Automotive Policy be more reflective of this opportunity especially because it will allow for the SME manufacturers and distributors to play a more integrated role in the ASEAN two-wheeler supply chain. At the same time, with the ASEAN free trade agreements that are in place, the government has already done part of its work.” 

    “Success lies in the nation’s ability to be focused and create high value leverage points for investors that compete in a global marketplace. Malaysia must compete and win as an investment destination, and leveraging demands of the two-wheeler industry, this is one sector to pay special attention to,” concluded Nordin.

    “Another area we identified is the opportunity in education and safety because it is such a huge challenge. If Malaysia can solve this internally, it could be a leader in ASEAN in this critical issue. This can be an area for export of intellectual property. But any solution needs to be tech-based, private sector driven, public sector endorsed and people-friendly especially in terms of cost to consumers,” said Rizal Kamaruzzaman, co-chairman of MGBF who delivered the welcoming address at the start of the MGBF Industry Dialogue.
