Fashion Extravaganza Unveiled: Malaysia Hosts Premier Tailoring Congress

The Federation of Tailors’ Guilds Malaysia (FTGM) has announced the much-anticipated return of the 28th Congress of the Federation of Asian Master Tailors, set to grace the illustrious Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur from August 1st to 6th, 2024. After an 18-year hiatus, this grand event heralds Malaysia’s unwavering dedication to bespoke tailoring excellence and propelling emerging talents onto the global stage.

With ambitions to attract a myriad of sponsors, exhibitions, and delegates, the Congress promises to ignite impassioned discussions and ignite unprecedented innovations within the industry. Attendees can expect an immersive experience teeming with diverse programs, ranging from exclusive masterclasses by distinguished luminaries to breathtaking fashion showcases.

Mr. Sam Ng Teck Yau, President of the Federation of Tailors’ Guilds Malaysia, exuded his fervor in hosting this prestigious gathering, declaring, “The 28th Congress of the Federation of Asian Master Tailors stands testament to Malaysia’s enduring commitment to the artistry of bespoke tailoring and the nurturing of budding talents. This assembly not only pays homage to Asia’s rich tapestry of tailoring traditions but also underscores our collective resolve to push the boundaries of creativity and craftsmanship.”

He emphasized that the Congress aligns seamlessly with Malaysia’s national agenda to celebrate and promote kebaya, batik, and songket, showcasing their unique attributes through dedicated fashion shows aimed at captivating international guests.

“We are set to offer foreign visitors immersive tours of Malaysia’s cultural and artistic landmarks, bolstering our tourism appeal and spotlighting our rich tapestry of arts and culture to entice more global visitors to explore our nation.”

In a bid to bolster support, the Federation has extended invitations to representatives from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MOTAC) and Tourism Malaysia to attend the upcoming media conference. Mr. Sam Ng expressed optimism that these esteemed bodies, alongside related ministries and the media, will lend their full-throated support to this landmark event.

August 2nd – 3rd, 2024: Eminent Professor Andrew M Ramroop OBE, from the Savile Row Bespoke Tailoring Academy, will impart exclusive Master Classes, setting unparalleled benchmarks in precision and artistry within the craft.

August 3rd, 2024 (18:00 – 19:30): The “Fashion Flux” Malaysia Emerging Designers Fashion Show will unveil avant-garde creations by fresh graduates from prestigious institutions like Raffles, INTI, and Vocational College. Featuring 10 designers and 40 meticulously curated looks, this showcase promises to ignite a tapestry of talent and innovation.

August 4th, 2024 (17:00 – 19:00): The “Fashion Mosaic” International Fashion Show will take center stage at the HGH Convention Centre, spotlighting the exemplary works of 30 designers from the Asia Master Tailors and MODA. With 162 meticulously crafted ensembles, this showcase epitomizes bespoke fashion at its zenith.

August 5th, 2024 (16:00 – 18:30): The Kuala Lumpur International Suit Walk will embark on an epochal journey from Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur. With 500 participants and the presence of 20 eminent opinion leaders, this event aims to etch its name in Malaysia’s annals of record-breaking feats.
