Expanding Industrial Robotics in Southeast Asia
Subang Jaya, 5 November 2026 — Epson, a global technology leader in industrial robotics, has announced the launch of its new AX6 Collaborative Robot (Cobot) in Southeast Asia, reinforcing its commitment to making industrial automation safer, more accessible and efficient, particularly in cleanroom environments.
The launch comes amid growing demand for flexible, energy-efficient and advanced automation solutions across various industries, including pharmaceuticals, logistics, automotive and electronics manufacturing. According to SkyQuest Technology Consulting, Southeast Asia’s Industrial Automation and Process Control market is projected to expand from US$10.06 billion in 2025 to US$17.54 billion by 2033, highlighting the increasing importance of automation in supporting industrial growth and operational efficiency.
Compact Design and Cleanroom Engineering of the Epson AX6
Designed to address space limitations in laboratories, cleanrooms and specialised production facilities, the AX6 features a lightweight and compact carbon-body arm manipulator that allows for easy deployment without requiring significant modifications to existing layouts or infrastructure. Weighing just 17kg, it is the lightest collaborative robot in its class. Its integrated support for both AC and DC power supplies also provides greater installation flexibility, while compatibility with Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) and Automated Guided Vehicles (AGVs) enables seamless integration into versatile automation systems.
Beyond improving operational flexibility, the AX6 is designed to help organisations address workforce shortages and increasing operational demands, particularly in logistics and healthcare. Its hand-guided teaching functionality allows operators to train the robot manually by setting physical points and defining workflows. Meanwhile, its intuitive block programming feature enables entry-level users to create automation processes without requiring extensive technical expertise.
For more advanced applications, the AX6 supports widely used development tools, including Python and the Robot Operating System (ROS), allowing greater flexibility across different operating environments and user skill levels. By simplifying deployment and reducing the technical barriers to automation, the robot enables organisations to automate repetitive tasks more efficiently while allowing employees to concentrate on higher-value responsibilities such as research, analysis and specialised clinical work.
Stringent Hygiene Compliance and Collaborative Safety Features
In environments where hygiene and contamination control are critical, the AX6 is designed to operate safely alongside human personnel while meeting stringent cleanliness requirements. It features an easy-to-clean, screwless exterior with internal wiring and tubing to minimise potential contamination risks. The robot also comes with an ISO Class 5 cleanroom classification and IP54 dust and splash protection, making it suitable for applications that demand high standards of cleanliness and operational safety.
The AX6 further incorporates several collaborative safety functions to support safer interaction between robots and human operators. These include Power and Force Limiting (PFL), Safe Operating Stop (SOS), Safe Limited Speed (SLS) and Safe Limited Position (SLP), providing additional safeguards for shared working environments.
Supporting organisations’ sustainability and long-term automation objectives, the AX6 also incorporates efficient motor mechanics designed to minimise operational downtime, even in challenging working conditions. These capabilities reflect the growing need for automation technologies that balance productivity, operational reliability and sustainability.
Commenting on the launch, Seiichi Ito, Regional Director – Robot, Epson Southeast Asia, said organisations were increasingly shifting their approach to automation, placing greater emphasis not only on technological capabilities but also on ease of adoption and practical usability.
He added that the AX6, Epson’s first-ever collaborative robot, represents this innovation through its compact design, intuitive teaching functions and collaborative safety features, enabling businesses to integrate automation more seamlessly into their existing operations.
The Epson AX6 Collaborative Robot is now available for purchase in Malaysia, with availability and configurations varying by market. Interested organisations can visit Epson’s official website or contact their nearest Epson Authorised Dealer for further information.
