Herbalife Survey Finds Most Gen Zs and Millennials in Malaysia Experience Better Wellbeing Through a Holistic Approach to Health

KUALA LUMPUR, October 5, 2026 — Herbalife, a global health and wellness company, has revealed that most Generation Z (Gen Z) and Millennial consumers in Malaysia are experiencing improvements in their personal wellbeing through a more intentional and holistic approach to health. Findings from the Asia Pacific Wellness Culture Survey 2026 highlight a generational shift in how younger consumers define and prioritise wellness, with greater emphasis on physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing.

The survey found that younger consumers are not only becoming more conscious of the importance of overall wellness but are also incorporating healthier lifestyle habits into their daily routines. In Malaysia, 62% of Gen Z respondents and 54% of Millennials reported participating in wellness activities more frequently than three years ago, surpassing the national average of 53%. These findings reflect the growing commitment among younger Malaysians to making personal health and wellbeing a consistent priority.

Steven Chin, Senior Director and General Manager, Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore.

Steven Chin, Senior Director and General Manager of Herbalife Malaysia and Singapore, said Gen Zs and Millennials stand out for their intentional and committed approach to wellness. He noted that this trend is reflected in Herbalife’s local wellness community, which has grown over more than 20 years to include more than 1,100 Nutrition Clubs and approximately 66,000 active distributors nationwide.

He added that younger Malaysians are increasingly viewing health and wellness not only as a personal priority but also as a potential entrepreneurial opportunity. Gen Z accounts for approximately 10.4% of Herbalife’s active distributors, highlighting the growing interest among younger consumers in the health and wellness sector. The company continues to support this interest through local initiatives and collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

According to Chin, the growing commitment to wellness among Malaysians, particularly younger consumers, is encouraging more people to seek opportunities to improve their health and connect with like-minded communities. These efforts are delivering positive outcomes today while helping establish a foundation for healthier and more fulfilling lives in the long term.

Whether in-person or online, a strong community provides Millennials with the support they need to reach their health goals.

Gen Z Places Greater Emphasis on Mental Health and Sleep Quality

Despite reporting positive improvements in their wellbeing, Gen Z Malaysians continue to identify areas where they want to make further progress. The survey found that sleep quality is the leading wellness priority for 50% of respondents, followed by mental wellbeing and stress management at 41%. Nutrition was identified by 36%, while 33% highlighted emotional wellbeing as an area they would like to improve.

These priorities are already translating into action. Approximately 51% of Gen Z respondents in Malaysia reported improving their sleeping habits, while 46% said they were making healthier food choices and 38% were managing their weight. The findings suggest that younger consumers are willing to invest consistent effort in their long-term wellbeing rather than focusing solely on short-term health goals.

The survey also revealed a broader understanding of wellness among younger Malaysians. Mental health emerged as the area where Gen Z respondents felt the greatest need for additional support, at 66%, followed by emotional health at 62% and physical health at 54%.

Gen X and Boomers are keeping it old school by staying active and putting physical health first.

In contrast, older generations, including Gen X and Baby Boomers in Malaysia, continue to place greater emphasis on physical health. This difference highlights how younger consumers are increasingly embracing a holistic approach that recognises the interconnected nature of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. They are also seeking support systems and communities that can help them maintain progress across these different dimensions of health.

Digital Communities Increasingly Shape Wellness Habits

Digital platforms are playing a growing role in how Gen Z Malaysians approach their wellbeing. More than half of respondents said social media had a positive impact on their physical wellbeing (61%), emotional wellbeing (57%) and mental wellbeing (56%) over the past 12 months.

The reported influence of social media exceeded that of friends and family. Meanwhile, personal social circles supported healthier habits among 49% of respondents, while online communities played an important role for 43% of Gen Z participants.

A similar trend was observed among Millennial Malaysians, with 49% identifying social media as the strongest influence on their physical health, followed by mental health at 44%. These findings suggest that both generations increasingly rely on digital platforms and online communities for information, motivation and encouragement as they work towards their wellness goals.

Chin said the future of wellness would depend on more than individual effort, as younger generations increasingly turn to both physical and digital communities for guidance, motivation and accountability.

In line with this trend, Herbalife expressed its support for Hari Sukan Negara (HSN) 2026, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, as a wellness and nutrition partner. The collaboration builds on the company’s commitment to encouraging wider participation in health, fitness and community-based wellness activities.

He added that initiatives and communities such as these bring people together through shared health goals and experiences. Whether through fitness groups, wellness communities or online networks, these connections can help transform healthy intentions into lasting habits and make wellbeing an integral part of everyday life.

Overall, the Asia Pacific Wellness Culture Survey 2026 highlights the growing importance of holistic health among Gen Zs and Millennials in Malaysia. By placing greater emphasis on physical, mental, emotional and social wellbeing, younger consumers are adopting a more comprehensive approach to health, supported by digital platforms, social connections and wellness communities.
